Looking after your baby's skin this summer

 Protecting your baby's skin

As we move into summer you should be able to enjoy more time outdoors with your baby, taking her for long walks in her pram or playing in the garden. But as the weather warms up it becomes even more important to look after your baby’s delicate skin. Protecting your baby's skin

 Sun Protection
Babies’ sensitive skin is particularly prone to sun damage. Dr Sarah Jarvis says: “If your baby is under six months keep them out of the sun. A baby’s skin doesn’t produce enough melanin to protect against sun.”

Keep them cool

Young babies can’t regulate their body temperature, so dress them carefully in hot weather to avoid overheating.

Dress your baby in layers so that it is easy to add or remove items to make sure they don’t get too hot or too cold.

Choose soft natural fabrics like cotton that are kind to your little one’s delicate skin and will let skin breathe.

Try washing your baby’s clothes in a fabric conditioner designed for babies sensitive skin like Comfort Pure to soften scratchy fibres to help prevent irritation.

Protect your little one from the sun

When the sun is shining dress your little one in loose, light clothing that covers their neck and shoulders- areas particularly prone to sun burn.

Invest in a sun hat and encourage your baby to wear it as much as possible. As your baby gets older and is keen to play in the garden or on the beach long sleeved UV swimsuits are great for protecting delicate skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

Even if you try to keep you baby out of the sun and dress them appropriately it’s important to apply a high factor sunscreen. Ask your pharmacist about sunscreens designed for babies or people with sensitive skin. Apply before you go out and re-apply regularly.

Comfort Pure is hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. Plus its skincare research is validated by the British Skin Foundation.
