Little terror, little treasure or a little timid? Take our quiz and find out your baby's personality type
1) You decide to play peek-a-boo. How does your baby react?a) Once you've revealed your eyes, she reaches for your forefinger, then pokes it in your eye. While you yelp in pain, she looks on – smug smirk all over her faceb) She giggles over and over as you countlessly say 'peek-a-boo'. Then she starts copying you and doing the actions herself – she's a genius!c) She's so distraught by the word 'boo', she jumps right out of her bouncy chair in terror – so now she's got a bruised head, too
2) The day's arrived – your baby's ready for her first taste of solids. How does she take it?a) You don't get that far, because as soon as you put the bowl on the highchair tray, she picks it up and lobs it – shame Dad's in the firing line!b) If she could speak, it'd go like this: 'Ooh, what's this? Yum, yum. More please, Mummy’c) When you get the spoon to her mouth, she clamps her mouth shut and starts whimpering. You'll try again tomorrow…
3) Granny's just bought your baby a new all-singing, all-dancing shape sorter. What does your baby do with it?a) She sorts the shapes brilliantly, except they're sorted into her older brother's mouth, ears, nasal passage… b) In goes the round shape; in goes the triangle shape; in goes the square… is there no end to her talents?c) What shape sorter? As soon as your tot hears the packaging rustle, she bursts into tears and holds out her hands to be picked up
4) Your tot's just done a stinker – what we mums in the know call an 'eight-wiper’ – nappy changing goes something like this:a) You finally get her to lay still on the mat, you open up her nappy (nose peg in place) and then your little darling puts her hand where it doesn't belong – before you know it, she's licking her fingers…b) Stinker? This one's 'offerings' smell of roses – and nappy changing's a doddle when all she does is lie back and think of, well, how great she isc) The sight of her own poo is enough to make your delicate flower wretch, so the only way you can get through it is to cover her eyes with her favourite clothie
5) You decide to visit the Mums and Tots session at the village hall? How does your baby settle in?a) The moment you put her down, she crawls over to the play kitchen and bashes the nearest 'playmate' over the head with a rolling pin. Time to make a hasty retreat…b) She sits quietly on the playmat, turning round to beam at you every so often, and diligently completes a four-piece transport puzzlec) Your baby's worst nightmare – she clings to you like a limpet and spends the entire time trying to hide under your jumper
6) And so to bed. How does your baby's night-time routine go? a) What routine? It's at 7pm that she really wakes up. You're lucky to get her settled by 9pm, and you'll be up for the 1am, 3am and 5am call – and that's a good nightb) She's like clockwork – points at the clock at 6.30pm to remind you it's story time, then snuggles into her sleeping bag for a full 10 hours' uninterrupted slumberc) She loves her evening milk as she gets to snuggle with you. Removing her from your clutches is another matter entirely – she's so clingy, she makes Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction look normal
How did she score?Mostly As Little TerrorGood lord – she's not even a year old and you more than have your hands full. It'd be a good idea to introduce some discipline now, before she turns into a complete nuisance of a toddler. A simple 'no' where appropriate, and some calm, but firm, words after she's thrown spaghetti at the walls is the way forward. Good luck!Mostly Bs Little TreasureYou obviously have a complete angel on your hands. Watch out for her mischievous streak when she hits toddlerhood, though – it can sometimes sneak up and bite you on the bottom when you least expect it! For now, enjoy your little wonder.Mostly Cs A Little TimidShe's terribly sweet, but leading life as a baby hermit won't do her any favours when it comes to nursery. Try to get her out and about to build her confidence. Start small-scale; an intimate coffee morning will ease her in. Before you know it, you won't see for dust at the next Mums and Tots session.
