Your baby: 1 month old

What’s he doing? He’s just been born but he already has reflex walking movements – if you hold his feet on the ground he’ll make a stepping motion. His hands are mostly closed but if you put your finger in his palm he’ll grasp it. He’ll watch you when you talk to him and may start to imitate your facial expressions.

How can he communicate? It’s not just wind – your baby will smile in his sleep by the end of the month. He’ll also tell you when he’s in need by crying, as you’re well aware by now!

How you can help Now you know there’s a reason for making silly faces at babies – stick your tongue out and do a spot of gurning and see if he attempts to copy you.
