What’s he doing? At three months old he likes splashing about in the bath and you may hear his first laugh around the end of the month. His smiles are getting broader and he responds to your higher-pitched voice more than dad’s lower tones. His neck muscles are developing and he might hold his head up for a short time.

How can he communicate? You’ll realise his cries are slightly different depending on what he’s trying to tell you – that he’s tired, hungry, impatient. He tries to copy your lip movements if you talk to him and will turn towards a noise.

How you can help Hold him up so his feet touch the ground to get him used to the feel of them. Talk to him and give him time to answer with a gurgle – he’ll love the one-to-one interaction.
