Forums

Anyone can view the forums and posts, but you will need to be registered and signed in with askamum.co.uk to be able to post your own messages. Once you have posted a message, you will have the option to edit and delete your own post at any point.

How to use the forums
Make sure you are signed in or have registered if you want to contribute to the forums. This can be done by clicking on the Sign In / Register at the top right hand of the page.

The forums are split into subject areas such as Time Out and Pregnancy. These subject areas contain different rooms that cover all aspects of mums and the lives of mums to be. The rooms then have topics that users create and these are replied to by other mums.

Example:

Subject Area > Room > Topic > Posts
i.e  Time Out > Gossip > askamum extra competition > 27 replies

To start a new topic
Enter the room that is most relevent to the topic you want to create.
Click on the Create New Topic option that sits just above the other topics.
Give your topic a Subject and then write your Message.
Click on the Submit option and it should then appear in the room it was placed in.

To reply to a topic
If you are reading another users topic you can post a reply.
Click on Reply to this topic which can be found under the original topic and all of the replies.
Write your reply.
There is an option to attach up to 3 images to each post by clicking Browse and opening a picture. 
To do this click submit.

To edit or delete a post or topic you have made
Go to the post or topic and you want to change.
There should be two options delete and edit under your post. You cannot edit or delete other people's posts.
To delete it completely just click the delete button and it will ask you if you are sure you want to delete it.
Click yes to delete it or no to return to the topic or post.
To edit it click on the edit button and it will allow you to change what you have written.Click submit to save your changes.

Do I have to register?
Registration is not required to view current topics on the Forum; however, if you wish to post a new topic or reply to an existing topic registration is required. Registration is free and only takes a few minutes. There are a number of required fields in order to register. If you believe someone is sending you advertisements as a result of the information you provided through your registration, please notify us immediately by email.

Why can’t I log onto the site?
Make sure that your username is case sensitive. This means that if you have a capital letter in your username you have to make it capital every time you log in. If you're having problems then please email support@askamum.co.uk.

Can I have signatures?
You are allowed to have signatures, however, askamum has the right to remove any signatures which are deemed offensive of inappropriate to the askamum brand. Signatures which include any advertising to other websites or businesses will also be removed.

How do I make an avatar?
Your Avatar may is uploaded in your profile. Click on the edit Online Profile which is an option on your profile page. Here you can upload new avatars, pictures and videos. Any avatar deemed inappropriate or offensive will be removed.

Why is my profile private?
Your profile is automatically set to private for privacy reasons. You have to manually make it visible to other users. There is a tick box in your profile that says: Make my profile visible to other users.

What are Moderators?
When you sign up to askamum you also sign up to the askamum forum charter. The moderators ensure that the terms of the charter are adhered to. 

Are cookies used?
A cookie is a piece of information sent to a browser by a Web Server. The browser then returns that information to the Web server. This is how some Web pages "remember" your previous visits. Cookies can also store user preference information, log-in data, etc (courtesy of verio.com).
These Forums use cookies to store the following information: the last time you logged in, your Username and your encrypted password. These cookies are stored on your hard drive. Cookies are not used to track your movement or perform any function other than to enhance your use of these forums. If you have not enabled cookies in your browser, many of these time-saving features will not work properly. You may delete all cookies set by these forums in selecting the "logout" button at the top of any page.

Can I edit my own posts?
You may edit or delete your own posts at any time. Just go to the topic where the post to be edited or deleted is located and you will see an edit or delete button under your post. Click on this icon to edit or delete the post. No one else can edit your post, except for the Forum Moderators or the Forum Administrator.

Can I attach files?
You can attach up to three pictures to your posts.

Can I search?
You may search for specific posts based on a word or words found in the posts, user name, date, and particular forum(s). Simply click on the "search" link at the top of most pages.

Can I edit my profile?
You may easily change any information stored in your registration profile by using the Your Profile link that is situated at the top of the left hand menu. Your password and all of your profile information will appear on screen. You may edit any information (except your Username).

What do I do if I forget my Password?
Changing a lost password is simple, assuming that e-mail features are turned on for this forum. All of the pages that require you to identify yourself with your Username and Password carry a "lost Password" link that you can use to have a code e-mailed instantly to your e-mail address of record that will allow you to create a new password. Because of the Encryption that we use for your password, we cannot tell you what your password is.

Can I be notified by e-mail when there are new posts?
This is not a current feature of the forums, but will be coming in the future.

What is COPPA?
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and Rule apply to individually identifiable information about a child that is collected online, such as full name, home address, e-mail address, telephone number or any other information that would allow someone to identify or contact the child. The Act and Rule also cover other types of information -- for example, hobbies, interests and information collected through cookies or other types of tracking mechanisms -- when they are tied to individually identifiable information.
