Halloween Games for Kids

Halloween is a huge celebration in America, so why not follow suit and throw your own Halloween Party. Decorate your house with fake cobwebs and spiders and make lots of Halloween inspired party food. Then start playing some of the great Halloween party games listed below. Have lots of ghoulish fun!

1. Bobbing for apples

You will need:
A clean basin that is not too deep
As many apples as you wish to bob for

This is an old favourite and one that has stood the test of time. Get a clean bucket and fill it with clean water. (Parents with very small children may not want to fill it very much.) Place some apples into the water and then take it in turns to duck your head in and try and bite an apple. No hands are to be used and the winner is the one who manages to bite an apple.
To make is easier make sure you use apples with a stalk

2. Pin the nose on the pumpkin/ wart on the witch

You will need:
A picture of a pumpkin or a witch
Cut outs of noses or warts
Blue tac/ double sided tape
A blindfold

Spend time with the children drawing and colouring in a large picture of a pumpkin or witch.
Create little cut out noses and warts that have double sided tape or blue tac on the back. Make enough for each child to have a number of tries.
Blindfold each child and spin them around three times. Why not make up a little rhyme for all to chant while they are being spun.
Allow the child to wander to the picture and place the cut out where they think it should go.

3. Guess the number of pumpkin seeds in the Halloween jar

You will need:
The seeds from a pumpkin, washed and separated
A large jar
A prize for the winner i.e Halloween sweets

Decorate the jar in a Halloween style and fill it with the pumpkin seeds.
Get all the children to guess how many seeds they think will be in the jar and write these down.
Once all the guesses are in, enrol everyone in the task of counting the seeds. Perhaps putting them into groups of 10 would make it easier.

4. Trick or treat

You will need:
Some fantastic Halloween costumes
A plastic lantern or bag to collect the sweets

If you have friendly neighbours or relatives that live in your area, why not do some trick or treating. Make sure an adult is always present and visit those you know to give them a fright. If you’re lucky then they will have some sweets for the kids.

5. Relay broom races

You will need:
As many sweeping brushes, brooms or toy brooms as there are children

This is probably best to be done outside in the garden. Line the children up in teams of two or three.
For added difficulty use your imagination and create obstacles or ask the children to pick things up from the floor as they zoom past.

6. Witch sweet hunt

You will need:
Lots of sweets

Hide the sweets throughout the house and let the kids run around trying to find them all.

7. Snap apple

You will need:
A few apples
A long piece of strong string
Blue tac
A thumb tac

Create a hole through the apple by pushing a knitting needle or skewer through it into a large piece of blue tac.
Feed the string through the hole and tie a large knot at the end so the apple hangs from it.
Use a thumb tac and attach the string to the ceiling so it swings and is low enough for the children to reach with their mouths. The children then take it in turns to have their hands behind their back and try and bite into the apple.
The first child to bite into it and have hold of it is the winner.

8. Guess the dead mans body parts

You will need:
Cold baked beans - innards
Cold sausages - fingers
Jelly - brain
Hard boiled eggs that have been shelled - eyes
Cold spaghetti - intestines
Plates
A blindfold

Prepare the food and place each onto a plate without letting the children see it.
Blindfold them and then place a plate in front of them to feel what is on it.
They must then guess what body part they are feeling.
The winner guesses the most correct.

9. Haunted House remembering game

You will need:
A tray
An array of items that symbolise Halloween which can be sweets, a crucifix, onions, a lantern, fake fingers etc.
A tea towel

Place the items on a try and allow the children to look at all the objects and try and remember them.
Then place the tea towel over the top and ask the children to close their eyes. Secretly take one of the items off the tray.
Ask the children to open their eyes and lift the tea towel from the tray.
The winner is the first person to guess which object is missing.

10. Pass the poisonous pumpkin

You will need:
A pumpkin

Sit the children in a circle and play some Halloween music.
Give them the pumpkin to pass around and stop the music at different periods.
The person who is holding the pumpkin when the music stops is then out.
The winner is the one left at the end.

11. Which ghost am I?

You will need:
A blindfold

Sit the children in a circle and ask one to stand in the middle of the circle.
Blindfold the child in the middle and spin them around a few times so they can’t remember who was sitting where.
The children in the circle will then take it in turns to make a “Wooooooo” noise.
The child in the middle then has to guess which ghost was trying to scare them.

12. Zombie tag

You will need:
Blindfolds

Blindfold whichever child wants to be the zombie first.
They then need to catch the other children who will turn into zombies if they are caught. Once they are caught they are also blindfolded.
The winner is the child who escapes the zombies the longest.

13. Mask making

You will need:
Cardboard
Paint
Crafts
String

Why not create your own scary masks for your Halloween party. Try and make them as gruesome as you can with lots of red paint. Remember to make holes for the eyes, nose and mouth.
Leave them to dry and then attach string or elastic to the back of them.

14. Make a mummy

You will need:
A few rolls of toilet roll

Choose one child who wants to be the mummy and get the other children to run around them with the toilet roll, being careful not to cover their face.

15. Pumpkin tiddlywinks

You will need:
A hollowed out pumpkin
Sweets

Place the pumpkin on a table that is a distance away from you and the children.
Take it in turns to try and throw the sweets into the pumpkin.
The winner is the first person who is able to get three sweets inside the pumpkins head.
