Studland Bay, Dorset It’s hard to think of a British hotel that could be set in prettier location – and it’s equally difficult to think of anywhere I’ve stayed that’s more family-friendly. Having been away three times with Elizabeth, Knoll House was the only break so far that instantly felt like a holiday for us, as well as her. Every family gets a super-friendly reception and tour of the hotel, which includes a children’s dining room, playroom, 24-hour access to a communal kitchen as well as a laundry and drying room that guests can use (perfect for a little person who likes to get mucky on the beach!). Aside from the playroom, there’s also an adventure playground, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and the beach is just a short walk away, so there was never a worry that Elizabeth would get bored. Nearby child-friendly activities include Putlake Farm, the Swanage Railway, Monkey World or the Weymouth Sealife Centre. But we didn’t leave the hotel once!Mealtimes are a joy not a stress – grown ups get to eat every meal in peace and quiet knowing the children are being well looked after. The supervised playroom at lunch and the babylistening service, where a member of staff lets you know the minute your baby cries, meant we could relax and savour the delicious food, which is another major plus point of the hotel. The highlight of the stay for Elizabeth was the Saturday night children’s disco. She got very hot and sweaty dancing excitedly to the music and meeting all the other toddlers. And the bonus for us? She slept like a log afterwards! So many places claim to be family friendly, but Knoll House really means it. Proper children’s meals, plenty for everyone to do and everything on tap in the most beautiful coastal surrounding. It’s not cheap but it’s worth every penny. If you can afford it, go for it. If you can’t just yet, then start saving now!Vital stats• Is baby-sitting available?
