Video: Expressing

Expressing milk can be difficult so in this video real mums explain how they do it and how the equipment works.

For easy expressing try these handy hints:

* Choose a time and place where you can relax and not be disturbed.

* Experiment with expressing milk by hand, using a hand-held breast pump, or try an electric pump.

* If it takes time to get your milk flow going, try thinking about your baby or look at her photo.

* Stop if it hurts - expressing can be uncomfortable, but shouldn’t hurt.

* You can store breastmilk in the back of the fridge (not in the door) for up to 24 hours in a sterilised container with a lid, or it can be kept for up to three months in a freezer. Allow it to defrost naturally.
