Georgina's Blog: The adventure continues…

Isn’t it strange how every stage with a little one is so all consuming, that you completely forget how they were a few months before? Casting my mind back to a year ago and it seems incredible to me how much Saskia has learned in such a short space of time. This time last year she hadn’t mastered the art of walking – she didn’t get to that particular milestone until she was 15 months old and I was tearing my hair out, thinking she was never going to get there. Now, it seems so unimportant when she started, because she’s running, jumping and dancing to Daddy’s dodgy music. At Christmas time she could say the odd word and now she’s speaking in sentences with ‘Come on Mummy,’ one of her favourites. From random scribbling on a piece of paper, she now holds the pen properly and can draw little sketches that do resemble something to the trained eye. Well, my eye anyway!

And that’s another thing – it’s not just Saskia who has learned so much. In the past year I’ve had to grow with her, spotting potential hazards when she started crawling and walking, dealing with her toddler strops without making them worse (not easy), not getting cross if she goes off food and then wants it again two days later, to finding what makes her laugh (chasing her around the house and blowing raspberries on her belly are her favourites). But the most important thing I’ve learned is that she’s her own person. She may be made by Alex and me, but she’s not half him and half me. She has bits of both of us in looks and personality, but mainly this funny, happy, feisty, lover-of-life is just her. My little Saskia and I still can’t believe that I’m so blessed to have this beautiful little girl in my life. As this is my last blog, I wish you all the best and hope that you are enjoying your little ones as much as I am (even the bad parts!) because it goes so incredibly quickly doesn’t it?
