Part 2 - January 11th 2009:Sunday morning comes round - this time I am up at 8.30am and go straight to the loo (well, after letting the dog out first and changing her water etc). Repeated the exact same ritual as yesterday and then waited. There it is again - the tiny pink line which seems so insignificant but means the biggest news I have ever had - I will be a mum! Argh! I hope I'm not too much like my mum in terms of neurosis/ panicking about illnesses/ strangers/ accidents etc. She kept me on reins until I was 4 and tied me to a long washing line whenever we went to the seaside which she would then let out enough for me to go and paddle but made sure I couldn't run away (yes, I have photos).
Start making a mental note of everything I will need - baby magazines, baby books, baby webclub memberships and more folic acid tablets. I have been taking these since I came off the pill just in case but realise I need to stock up. Oh and I remember reading somewhere that Bio Oil is good to prevent stretch marks. Mmm this is a bit scary - I had a growth spurt when I was 15 and got stretchmarks on the backs of my thighs. My boyfriend at the time was convinced they were something dreadful and made me go to the doctor - the humiliation to be told I grew too quickly for my skin to cope has stayed with me and I don't want any more! I spend all day looking at baby websites and then in the evening we call our parents and my sister. My dad's overseas at the moment and not on email nor does he have a mobile (he prefers to be mysterious) so I plan to write to him tomorrow. My other half's parents also live overseas and they are over the moon. They immediately make plans to come and visit next month which is fab. My mum is also surprisingly delighted. After years of dreading becoming a granny she is actually really open to the idea as is my sister. Saying it out loud really makes the news hit home. In 9 months time (or 8 - not sure how they work it out yet) there will be an addition to our family! Start wondering if the dog will be OK with a brother or sister and then start worrying because my dog loves cuddly toys and always rips them apart in a few minutes. Will she try and take the baby's toys or start trying to lick the baby’s face etc? Lots of things to think about!
We go to the pub round the corner for lunch and I suddenly realise no pint of shandy for me today and order a diet coke instead - oh well at least I should lose some weight by giving up alcohol for a while!

Hi, I'm so overwhelming, actually I'm going to become dad in next two months, well of course this is our first baby. I just found your site and it's pretty cool that you have lots of info here, however I would like ask you a favor, can you point me to the right direction on how to take care of first baby? I'm sorry if I ask at the wrong section, by the way, thanks in advance! Regards, Pat (iphone 4 case)

I love my boys so much. They are the light of my life. My oldest is 23 and my youngest is 18. We have always been super close - yes we've hung out at malls and go to the movies as adults even. When they get married I will welcome my daughter in-laws into my home as my daughters and hope that they will be as close to me as my boys are. I don't know what it's like to have a daughter, but I know I wouldn't trade my boys for the most perfect daughter in the whole world. They are the best. I thank God everyday that he chose to give me sons. Patricia ITCSales
