Bikini waxing when pregnantAnother Bank Holiday has come round. It's so strange but when I was working Bank Holidays felt as rare as hen's teeth and now they seem to come around all the time. I have another Hollywood wax on Wednesday which is great as my tummy is making it quite hard to bend down at the moment and so at least this way I am sure I am attended to properly!
The Linea NigraI have also noticed a faint brown line growing from my lower abdomen up to my belly button recently. This must the the "Linea Nigra" the books and magazines mention which apparently disappears once the baby is born.
Baby HygieneOn Thursday I am invited to an event to promote Dettol wipes and sprays for mums to be and mums. I didn't know that you get bacteria "hotspots" around the home which can be even dirtier than your loo! Key hotspots are the highchair, changing mat, cot sides, nappy disposal bin and kitchen surfaces. It was nice to find out that by keeping these hotspots blitzed with anti-bacterial products like Dettol which are non-tainting you can prevent your baby from getting sick. Apparently you can even pass on bacteria if you touch raw meats and then breastfeed without washing your hands (yuck!). Luckily I have always been one of those people who wash their hands at least 20 times a day and so this should be fine. Make a note to stock up on lots of Dettol wipes for when the baby comes.
Another quiet weekend spent at home in contemplation and reflection on my situation and what's been happening. It's my sister's birthday next week and mine 10 days after that but as she is also looking for work at the moment we decide to not go mad on buying gifts.
Birthday lunchMy mum and I meet my sister on Tuesday to buy her a birthday lunch. We meet at St Pancras station where they allow dogs in the concourse and to sit outside the restaurants and bars but unfortunately mum's new dog is so old his bladder is rather weak and so he does the biggest puddle of wee I have ever seen right in front of a cafe packed full of people eating lunch. Talk about embarrassing!
Maternity lingerie and high heelsWent to an event for Simone Perele lingerie on Wednesday - they have some amazing lingerie ranges which are really beautiful and found out that the lovely lady who does their PR, Paige is pregnant too. She is due the day after me, also with a boy and at the same hospital! We cannot believe the coincidence! Find out she wore wired bras for her last 2 pregnancies and so feel a little less guilty for still occasionally wearing some of mine. I am also impressed she is wearing heels. I rarely wear heels anyway but since getting pregnant have stopped altogether as I have read that your centre of gravity shifts forward when you are pregnant so if you are not good in heels anyway you are more likely to fall over! Picked out an gorgeous coral coloured bra and matching knckers set at Simon Perele - I am now a 34/36 GG (argh!) but instead of feeling self conscious about my growing curves this set makes me feel really glamorous and confident. It's amazing what some lovely lingerie can do for your self esteem.
Bump bands, maternity jeans and the New Look maternity rangeWent to New Look at the weekend and got some more bump bands (3 for £12 - complete bargain!) and some cropped maternity jeans (£18!) and a long black strapless maternity sundress (£26!). I could have spent hundreds in there - their maternity range is really well designed and affordable but I had to hold back remembering that my finances are extremely limited at present and that I should only get essentials. New Look and Dorothy Perkins are my current favourite maternity shops - the clothes they design are actually ones you would buy anyway not just because there is no other choice and the value is second to none.
