Mum to be blog: Part 24 - shoe shopping and tiredness during pregnancy

The Ex-Files – Diary of an expectant, exhausted and excited mum to be

Car accident
My other half had a car accident today. It's ironic because it looks like we will have to sell the car anyway because of my losing my job (anyone out there interested in a 6 year old Freelander?!) but he was hit from behind by a delivery van and so now we have to wait for it to be repaired but at least the other driver was at fault so we don't lose our no claims bonus and our insurance company have sorted out a courtesy car too. I was really shaken after my other half rang me to tell me what had happened as it makes you realise how precious life is and how much a baby needs both parents around. My other half has also asked me to drive as little as possible at the moment so for sure he feels the same way too.

Birthday girl
It's my birthday this week but we just go for a quiet meal out as I don't feel like celebrating that much this year after everything that has happened. Last year I had a big drinks do in a winebar with my friends and this year couldn't face a big celebration as I am living under a constant cloud of worry. My in laws are due over on Saturday for another visit and I can't wait to see them.

Picked up my in laws on Saturday at the airport and spent a lovely few days with them which really helped take my mind off things. We took them to Westfield which they couldn't believe the size of as well as Primark and TK Maxx to look for some bargains. It is so enjoyable to look for baby things now - something I always used to get a bit bored doing with my friends before. It's true when they say you join a special club when you are pregnant and that your interests and priorities completely change. I feel like I have so much more in common with my friends again and that is a wonderful feeling.

Shoe shopping when pregnant
One of my friends kindly gave me a voucher for Office shoes for my birthday and I found a gorgeous pair in the Westfield branch of black beaded T-bar flat sandals which are smart enough to wear in the evening as well as during the day and cost £45. They do them in black and silver and they have sequins as well as the beads on the front but I opted for black as they will go with more of my clothes. I have also seen a really nice silver pair of beaded flats in Dune which I have my eye on (for when I save up a bit more). It's amazing how many gorgeous flat shoes and sandals there are nowadays. My mum and sister have always lived in heels and as a result have terrible corns and bunions - I would much rather wear glamorous flats and keep my feet from turning into Hobbit feet!

Choosing baby names
My in laws went back on Tuesday and I was sad to see them go. They are so excited about the baby being a boy and we have started discussing names which is a whole new area to worry about. On Wednesday I went to a press event for Huggies who are launching some new baby wipes which cost just £1 a pack and yet get rid of most messes a baby makes. I will definitely be stocking up on these as they are great for the dog too. It was really interesting as they had a child pyschologist there who was telling us that it's really healthy for a developing chilld to be allowed to make a mess and be creative as it helps them to develop all kinds of skills. My mum used to go mad if I even spilt water so I resolve to try and be as tolerant to mess as possible with my baby!

My dad's stay at the family friend's house is up this weekend and I have luckily found him a room with another family friend until I can sort out his council accommodation application. We need to move all his belongings to my mum's house at the weekend which is going to be a mammoth task. My other half has instructed me not to lift anything heavy (he has to work) and so I have got my sister, her boyfriend and her other friend to come along and help. I have a feeling it will be a long weekend.

Tiredness during pregnancy
I am SO tired. I had no idea my dad had so much stuff and we ended up moving most of it from Hertfordhshire to Surrey in a mammoth 2 and a half hour drive on Saturday. At least he has got everything stored away now which is great and his new room is really nice and big and the couple he is living with are out at work all day too so he has the flat to himself a lot which is also really good. I just hope I can sort out some council accommodation for him soon so he has his own home again. Sunday I just spent recovering from the move. Whilst I didn't lift anything heavy I did help out carrying lighter things like plants and pictures etc and helped wrap all his china and glass in newspaper. I am really aching today and at times like this I really wish I had a hot tub!
