Diet pills, cleaning products and plastic flowers are just some of the dud gifts that might be landing in your lap on Mother’s Day if a new survey is anything to go by.

Asked about the worst Mother's Day gifts they've ever received, 1,000 UK mums confessed all and voted on the biggest clangers.

Diet pills, handed to one mum, topped the list as the worst gift, while gifts based around chores also got the thumbs down from mums. You don't want to unwrap rubber gloves, kitchen aprons and bargain basement cook books, who knew?

The unlucky recipient of the diet pills said, 'When my teenage son handed me a bottle of diet pills last Mother's Day I hit the roof. I think it was his idea of a joke but needless to say I didn't find it in the least bit funny.'

Cleaning products came in at a close second as the worst Mother's Day gift ever, with 18 per cent of votes, followed by plastic flowers.

All the top five in the poll by promotionalcodes.org.uk were voted worse than getting nothing, which came in at number six. But mums would still prefer exercise DVDs, cuddly toys or ill-fitting clothing over no gift at all.
