Three new projects have been set up to help parents and grandparents with their child caring needs.

The Government minister for the Department for Children, Schools and Families, Dawn Primarolo, has launched the projects to help parents and carers with their parenting skills.

The three new projects include:

1. Parenting on Demand: online video support for parents/carers of children aged 5-19

2. beGrand.net:: an online grandparenting help and support service

3. Relate for Parents: a relationship support service from Relate improving family conflict resolution and strengthening family relationships.

The new projects are an expansion to the £60 million government Parent Know How programme, set up in May 2008, to provide information and support for those caring for young children.

This has already been a successful initiative, with 80% of users reporting ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with the services offered.

The new projects also offer online or telephone support, online social networking support, informative articles and online videos. These are designed to help parents and carers feel less isolated and more empowered to help their families.

The three new pilot projects will run until March 2011 and will then be evaluated for their success. It is hoped they will reach as many as 5 million people in England.
