Down-to-earth Channel Four property presenter Kirstie Allsopp has lashed out at celebrity mums who claim to ‘have it all’.
The presenter feels a new generation of celebrity mums put unrealistic pressure on women to get back in to shape after birth, manage a family and go back to work.
In a recent interview with Closer magazine she said: "I resent women in the public eye who look glam, do glamorous jobs and try to pretend they have it all when they don't. You can't have it all without help."
Allsop, 36, who is mother to two sons Bay, 3, and Oscar, 1, with property developer Ben Andersen, also has two step-sons, Orion, 9, and Hal, 6, from Ben’s previous marriage. With four boys to look after, she freely admits that she gets help around the house from a nanny and a housekeeper.
She explained: "It puts pressure on all mums. Even as a 'celebrity mum' myself there is now a huge expectation that you'll have a natural birth, get your figure back immediately, take naturally to motherhood and continue a successful career. It's rubbish."
Allsop who went back to work just three months after giving birth to Oscar in August last year said she regretted that decision.
She added: “It was too soon”. Those first few months are precious and important to spend with your baby, if you choose to go back to work very early you miss out on those special moments. It is important to make the right decisions for you and not to feel pushed into them by expectations.”
