Exams are damaging kids

Children are the real losers under the national testing system in England, according to a new report from a committee of MPs.

Teachers are forced to spend too much time preparing children for exams rather than teaching them.

And, with hundreds of thousands of 11-year olds in England taking their SATs this week, the report warns children are being let down by the testing system.

The report warns: "The inappropriate use of national testing could lead to damaging consequences".

Those consequences could be a generation of children who are prepped to pass exams, but have very little understanding of how to apply it to the real world.

Pupils in England take on average 70 national tests while at school which doesn’t include the internal tests and mock exams the schools set.

Children are tested more today than they ever have been in the past and the extra pressure is starting to show on some children.

Constant testing is also leading to some pupils feeling like failures if they can’t pass the exams which can result in a lack of motivation.
