Woman gives birth in aeroplane toilet then allegedly dumps baby in bin

A 30-year-old woman secretly gave birth to a baby in an aeroplane toilet before allegedly leaving her newborn in a toilet bin on the plane.

The baby, who is apparently alive and well, was only found an hour after the flight landed.

The plane which was flying from Samoa to Auckland landed at 5.20am and a cleaner found the baby after all passengers had left the plane.

The mother of the baby was identified by CCTV footage and taken to hospital where she was reunited with her baby.

However, she could face criminal charges for allegedly abandoning her baby inside a bin in the toilet cubicle.

She had apparently gone in to labour unnoticed and none of the 150 passengers or air stewards realised she was even pregnant.

Immigration officials are now investigating the incident in order to find out how she was able to board a plane at such an advanced stage of pregnancy.
