Toy story ‘When I found out I was pregnant, I went straight out and bought a teddy with “No. 1 Daddy” written on its tummy. Normally, my partner goes straight upstairs for a shower after work, so I stuck the teddy to the mirror and ran him a bath. Typically, that day he decided to start replacing our kitchen floor as soon as he got home, so I had to tell him to go and look in the bathroom. When he saw the teddy he laughed. He was very happy.’Tracey Litchfield, 27, mum to Ella, two
Fashion statement‘When I found out I was pregnant with my second baby, I typed “I’m going to be a big sister!” on the computer, and printed it onto transfer paper. Then I ironed it onto a plain white T-shirt for my 15-month-old daughter, Sydney, to wear. When my husband came home from work, he looked at Sydney, looked at me, looked at Sydney again, then came straight over to me and gave me a big kiss and a cuddle. I think it took a few minutes for it to really sink in, but he was thrilled.’Kate Hambly, 21, from Neath, South Wales, mum to Sydney, 15 months, and five weeks pregnant
Read all about it‘I found out I was pregnant at the doctor’s. On the way home, I bought a home pregnancy test and a copy Pregnancy & birth magazine. I left the positive test and the magazine on the coffee table. When my hubby came home from work, he sat down and picked up what he thought was the TV magazine and a pen to do the crossword. When he realised what it was, he had a tear in his eye.’ Kandy Mitchell, 20, from Fife, Scotland, mum to Colin, eight months
Mysterious ways‘One morning, my husband phoned me from work. He told me that he’d been walking to his office when a little old lady stopped him, put her hand on his arm, said, “Congratulations, sir, your partner's expecting,” and then walked off. Needless to say, both of us had goosebumps. When I stopped to think, I realised that my period was five days late, so that lunchtime, I bought a pregnancy test. Lo and behold, it was positive! I phoned my husband, and we spent the rest of the day calling each other and laughing. We were both over the moon.’ Karen,37, from Surrey, mum and 25 weeks pregnant
While he was sleeping‘I was a bit worried about telling my partner I was pregnant with my first child, as we'd only been together seven months and it wasn't planned. So, I wrote a note before I went to bed and put it in his hand while he was asleep, so he'd see it when he woke up. Thankfully, after getting over the initial shock, he was thrilled.’Kim, 21, from Barnsley, mum to Dannii, two, and two months pregnant
What’s cooking?‘I put the positive pregnancy test sticks in an envelope, and put that into a pie dish. When my hubby came home and asked what was for dinner, I told him I had a bun in the oven for him and asked him to check on it for me. When he saw the envelope, he thought I’d lost the plot – until he took the test sticks out. He was speechless for a good 10 seconds, then exclaimed, “You’re pregnant!” Once it had sunk in, he asked what was really for dinner!’Tori de Bruyne, 27, from Nantwich, Cheshire, mum to Joseph, three
Public announcement ‘I got up one morning and just knew something was different. So I rang my mum and she made me do a pregnancy test while she waited on the other end of the phone. As soon as it came up positive, I ran into the bedroom and told my hubby. Phone home‘My husband told me I was pregnant! We’d just been through our third cycle of IVF, after two unsuccessful previous attempts. I’d been to the doctor for the blood test which would show if I was pregnant. The doctor said he’d phone in two hours with the result. When we got home, my husband said he was taking the dog for a walk. He asked me to check the answer machine for messages, and there it was – a message from the doctor saying the results were in. I screamed over the balcony for my husband, and told him to phone the doctor – I couldn’t bear to be told the treatment had failed again. I couldn’t even watch, and went inside while he phoned on his mobile. A few minutes later, I went back onto the balcony, and there was my husband, standing in the road, punching the air. I couldn’t believe it as he looked up at me, smiled and nodded – we were finally going to be parents!’Lynne Kopellou, from Greece, mum to Ioanna Philomena, 15 months
It’s a wrap‘When I found out I was pregnant with Gemma, I told my husband by wrapping the two positive tests up in a gift box, tied with a ribbon, and giving it to him as a surprise present. I’d had the gift box and paper, already cut to size, hidden in a drawer for months!’Suzie Wright, 43, from Berkshire, mum to James, three, and Gemma, eight months
