Is it worth buying a birthing ball? I'm 37 weeks and not sure if it's worth buying my own or just using the hospitals when I go into labour.

Hey, Im currently 31 weeks and having alot of pain with the pressure on my hips. I picked up a birthing ball for £5 in tesco's and is the best thing i've purchased for the pain. Plus it takes the pressure off your lower back and hips when you cant get comfy on a sofa! xx

I would definitely recommend one. I bought a cheap gym ball in argos (like the person below). I used it at home in the few weeks up to giving birth to encourage the baby into a good position. In the end, I was induced at 38 weeks so I did non of my labour at home but as I already knew I liked the ball, I used the birthing ball in the hospital throughout the first stage of labour. It was brilliant. It just gives you another option. Whatever positions you like, you will need several up your sleeve as you just need to change what you're doing every half hour or so. I think you need three or four positions that you like. I spent hours on the ball and leaning against the back of the bed and standing up all in a rotation. If I had done my early labour at home, I would definitely have used the ball.

i would definitely recommend a birthing ball, I had a gym ball which is the same as the one in the hospital and it was brilliant for helping with the pain of contractions. I even wondered how I was going to get off the ball as it was so comfortable rocking back and forward. I gave birth to my daughter 11 weeks ago with no pain relief at all and she was 8lb 120z..

We didnt buy a birthing ball but did go out and buy a "space hopper" - wonderful dose of retro sillyness - my other half found it helped a lot and also had handles! Bonus we still can use it now to play with the kids!

its entirely upto u as to whether u buy one, but i went out and got one myself as i hav been told its good for back pain relief during pregnancy, i am now 26 weeks and find bouncing on my ball quiet fun and relaxing... i hav been also told it could b quite good for early labour if i am not in the hospital straight away and decide i can hang on at home... i paid £4.99 for mine at argos and its a god send... this is my 4th baby and i never tried or even thought or a birth ball with my other 3 so i think i made a wise investment!! it all depends as well i think if u want to use the ball again after this baby... they r good for yoga and if u decide to hav more babies then u hav it there ready for the next 1!!
