I tried to book on NCT classes 2 months ago and I've just been offered an intensive course, quite close to home, but only 2.5 weeks before my due date. I'm going to go along to the NHS classes too since I went to an early pregnancy one run by physios and midwifes and it was really informative. Is it worth forking out the extra cash for the NCT classes, when they are so late in the pregnancy? Any advice much appreciated.

if you can afford it then go for it.....i felt they were worth every penny. We covered everything necessary and it was great piece of mind for me and helped to clarify everything before the arrival. My other half seemed to enjoy it too, and got to bath a baby....not a real ne mind you, but he got involved. Unfortunately, or not....we arrived at the last but one evening with our baby..as she was born 4 1/2 weeks early. a surprise for them as much us...and caused amusement. Even though effectively we were out of pocket it still prepared us well. Good luck!

I looked into NCT classes and I was also only offered the intensive ones as I left it too left (they suggest booking when you are 3 months pregnant, however not the first thing on my mind). I felt a bit under pressure from other mums to go on the courses as it made me feel that if I didn't do them I would be isolating myself. However I felt they were very expensive so I took a day course at the hospital, which was very useful. After my little girl was born, my health visitor recommended I join a first time mothers group which has been great. It was a 6 week course for a few hours a week with a guest speaker each week who discussed various topics from baby massage to immunisations. It was a great way to meet new mums and more practical as you are actually doing the job of mum so you could deal with issues as they arose. After the course finished we continued to meet up every week and also have a google group so we can keep in touch and discuss and problems we are having. I would recommend finding out whether your area offers such services as they are free and only ask for donation. Good luck with what ever you choose and most important make the decison that is best for you.

Personally I thought NCT classes were worth every penny and I'd definitely recommend them. Not only are they very informative but class sizes are small and you'll make some good friends who will all have babies the same age as yours. I regularly meet up with my NCT friends and its great to be going through the same things at the same time and have people to talk things over with. Best of luck with whatever you decide x

yes - i went on a weekend course and it was really helpful. and u get to meet other parents who are local to u. plus it really helped my husband be more aware of the birth etc as he wouldn't read any books with me before hand.
