I've just put my 7 year old daughter in to modelling. I paid £25 just to go and see them and now they want £200 to offer her a year contract. Is this right or wrong, because I'm all new to this and I'm not sure of my rights or my daughter's. Can someone help me?

You should never have to pay for your daughter tomodel if it is a legitimate company. If they were seriously interested in her they would pay for her portfolio and any castings. The only cost you would be responsible for is travel fees.

Hiya, i have a 7 month old son and have recently joined a well respected london agency. we would not have a clue if it wasn't for the help and support of a child modeling forum on the site netmums.com in the join the club section. It sounds to me u may have joined a shaddy agency as most good agencies do not charge for an assessment at all and the fee u pay is for them to set up a web page for ur child, sometimes this includes professional photographs and updates to the webpage as ur child grows and changes. the fee's can be from as little as £40, however some do charge annually and some u pay a one off 'lifetime' payment. There's only one top agency i know of charging £200 in fees, most are between £40 and £120. There is alot u shold know and i couldn't possibly explain (or remember) it all in this reply, the best thing u can do now is go to the modeling advice website Alba.com, it has a wealth of information on wot agencies to trust and even which ones to avoid completely. I sincerely hope u research as much as possible b4 handng over any money wot so ever, scam agencies pray on parents who like the idea of their child modeling but have done no homework and know nothing about how a genuine agency operates. i have heard of many parents handing over the cash then constantly being told their child is being put forward for jobs and just aren't being chosen...but they are not being put forward at all, this is how they keep taking ur money year after year b4 u clock that somethings not right.. I hope u read this or have read advice on this somewhere else in time and have not gone ahead wiv joining b4 finding everything out u can about this agency and the business as a whole, Good luck finding the right agent for ur little girl, hope i have helped a bit. S xx

Under no circumstances should you pay to join an agency. There are no guarantees that your child will actually get work. They should take people on for free and then make their money by bookings for them. Sounds like a scam to me just to make money out of people. All the info you could possibly need is here- http://www.albamodelinformation.com/scams.php

Hi Ginga Child modelling is abit of a mine field due to amount of agency's out there that take your money and thats about it! I would suggest that to find a reputable agency you speak to a few advertyising departments of stores and magazines to find out which agancies they use. We all think our children have what it takes to be a model but if one of these reputable agencies thinks so too go for it. Please don't part with any of your money untill you have done further research into this x
