I'm 34 weeks pregnant with first baby. As my due date approaches I’m getting very anxious about the birth, fear of the unknown I suppose. Can anyone give advice on how to mentally prepare for what lies ahead?

i really dont think anyone can prepare themselves, the main thing i would say is just take it all as it comes and try and enjoy every moment as it goes so quickly. i was in labour for just 7 hours start to finish with my son and cant believe how quicly it went. good luck and hope all goes well

I'm in the same situation myself...though I'm 33 weeks and 2 days pregnant to be precise. I'm very nervouse especially since I'm squemish and all everyone does around me is talk about 'when the time comes.' My advice is read up on what to expect, talk to other mums on their experiences but most importantly relax-and know what you're going through is nothing short of being sacred and magical. Also know that when it comes to medical advice it really is best to seek your midwives/doctors advice because a lot of 'medical' advice ordinary people tell you have no basis-even if they're mothers themselves! Its just that some ppl buy into old wives tales...

well, you cant prepare really, labour and birth are so unpredictable, all i could say is try and chill, i didnt realise how knackard i was until i had an epidural and nearly fell asleep! take things to the hospital to take your mind off of it, like magazines and your fave music, take some snacks aswell like grapes, sandwiches etc. after all you never know how long your labour will be, mine was 17 hrs! hope this helps.
