How much should I feed my child?
By TraceyGodridge
Recent news reports suggest mums are losing sight of what normal portions are
The result is that we're overfeeding our little ones, and may be encouraging behaviour which will lead to obesity in later life.
Here we show you what is a suitable portion for two and three year olds, and how often they should be eating them.
Limit fatty or sugary food - six small chips or one biscuit or small slice of cake

I just feed Celeste until she says she doesn't want any more. Her portions are far smaller than ours, but there are times when she might eat her whole main course, followed byc some cheese, then some fruit, then maybe a yoghurt and then some dried fruit or something like that -she'll just go on and on. All I can do is make sure she gets variety and healthy stuff...then I'm not going to worry too much...other days she might not want much at all. She always tells me if she is hungry, and when she is full...I just follow her lead really! Alsoreading those quantities is really confusing...Celeste will normally have one portion of meat or fish a day, and its often far more than 1 1/2 tablespoons, but she doesn't eat 1 1/2 table spoons 2-4 times a day iyswim!

i dont give young kids main meals as such, i find they do better with constant snacking throughout the day, i suppose my 4 year old would eat about the same as whats listed but would have maybe 7 or 8 different small snacks instead of 3 main meals a day

That looks about right although my 2 year old does not eat that much meat or fish, and I dont think it is necessary to have that much. She has other protein foods which are not listed here such as eggs and different types of beans, why are these not included here?

I have a 5 year old and an 18 month old. The 5 year old wasa "good eater" until about age 2 and his brother looks like he may follow the same pattern but having read these guidelines I am pleasantly surprised that maybe the little one isn't doing too badly after all.
