My son of 38 months refuses to use a baby toilet seat or potty or tell me if he wants the toilet. He is so advanced in every other way. Walking by 10 months tallking very early. He stopped using a botte at 10 months. I have been very patient with everything, letting him do everything at his own pace. Can other mums help before he goes to school in Sept?

I've got 2 boys both of whom were fairly easy to toilet train. My best advice would be as follows: Decide where they will go for a wee, potty or toilet and stick to it. Do not use pull-up nappies. I bought pants and called them big boy pants. Everytime you/partner got to the toilet take them with you. Ask them every 40mins-hour if they need the toilet/potty. However long it takes do not change the routine, they just get confused. My son got the hang in about 1 week, then 2 weeks later it went downhill again - expect this. All children are different my sister-in-laws little girl was potty trained at 2 cause she kept asking to go when she saw my son going!!

Hi. I trained my son at 2.5 years and although I had anticipated a long haul, he was dry within a week and he is now 44 months and dry through the night too. When I potty trained I did it in the summer months so we had warmer weather, like now..easier for drying wet clothes and for wearing less clothes. For the week that it took I made sure we stayed home. I put the potty in the lounge and made a big deal of it. I brought some fun stickers and some gold stars. Every time he used the potty he could choose a sticker to stick on the potty and a star for his reward chart....every 5 stars got a prize....this worked a treat! For the first 2 days I let him run around with nothing on the bottom half....I had noticed that if he had nothing on he used the potty more often. I limited drink intake and asked him every hour or so if he needed to go and every time he did I made a major deal out of it! There were accidents but we didn't make a big deal about those. I did make sure he knew that the nappies had completely gone and we would not be using them again before we started training. After 2 days I put him in pants and bottoms like joggers so they are easy to whip off. He had more accidents then but soon realised that it wasnt nice having soggy trousers. I'm sure your son will get the hang of it, boys do tend to be lazier at training and even now my son would sometimes rather stand and wiggle until he is bursting for the loo than go and relieve himself because he's so preoccupied doing other things. When your son starts school he will want to be like all the other children and I'm sure you'll find if he hasn't quite got the idea before then he will once he starts at school. Good luck! x

Hey My son is 40 months old. (3 and half) and has only just started to potty train. It's difficult for me as i super nannied for 10 years before i had my son. So i should know all the tricks of the trade.. but with Finlay i couldn't. Sounds odd. My advice to you, as i have just done it with finlay is.. to stick to one thing, finlay uses the potty for now. Stick to pants and trousers, lots of trousers. Take him to the toilet with you in the morning, shut the door, give him a book. show him what you've done, get him to flush the toilet. Make a very big deal when he does do a wee, maybe have a treat box as a inncentive. Ask him .. boys tend to go every 2 hours.. limit amount of liquid during the day, ask him what feels like constantly. Boys tend to be too busy doing thing to pee. Expect accidents, but stick with it, don't change back to nappies (although we use pull ups for night time) Get him to choose his pants before you buy them, show him where they are in the draw so he knows where to get them. Paitence is a virtue.. boys tend to be lazy but he will thrieve on the independance. Good luck!! 2 weeks now of potty training and we have nearly mastered it.. Take care, Lx
