2008 - 2009 Midwife of the year award goes to:Nicky BrownlieSandhurst Group Practice
She was nominated by Penny Johnson. This award was sponsored by ASDAHere's her story:Unfortunately I had a still birth on the 17th Aug 06 due to pre-eclampsia and HELP syndrome and therefore I was a high risk pregnancy, which required me being monitored and checked weekly. The system that my doctor’s surgery operates is that you see any one of the six midwifes.
From 8 weeks Nicky went out of her way to ensure that I saw her each week and therefore I didn’t have to go through all the painful explanations of what had happened in my previous pregnancy repeatedly. Nicky arranged that every Friday I would attend her clinic at 4.30pm, which was past her working hours but also allowed us not be rushed. I was due to be induced on 12th August and Nicky arranged her shift pattern so she would be there. My labour came naturally on the 13th August at 3am in the morning. At approx 7am my husband called Nicky to let her know and she amazingly re-arranged her whole day around to come in and assist and support me - she arrived at 9am. Out lovely baby boy was born at 12.09pm. She used to call me her ‘special lady’, and she really made me feel special. Nicky was so very supportive and encouraging, nothing was too much trouble and she was always considerate of my feelings and emotions. She is very down to earth with a great sense of humour and is fun. I have mentioned to people that Nicky was my midwife and all have said how very lucky I was, as she really is fabulous. I could go on but all I can say is Nicky really deserves to win as I felt I couldn’t have gone through it all without her.
