Winner of the Special Care Baby Unit Awards 2008-9 is:
Dorothy WattersRoyal Preston Hospital, Nominated by Liz Heaton. Here's her story:Dorothy deserves the award as she always went that extra mile to help care for the babies and their families. She gave my family fantastic support in what was a very difficult time for us all. My son was born in December at 24 weeks weighing just 1lb 9oz and we were told he was too small to survive. I had also just lost my grandma to cancer and another close family member all just weeks apart. Dorothy went out of her way to make us feel at ease during our very long and difficult five months in the Neo Natal Unit and without her and her amazing care, help and support I couldn’t have coped and probably would have broken down. As our last day approached it felt like we were saying goodbye to a family member, more than just a member of staff. By sheer coincidence it also turned out that she used to know my grandma-what a small world.
