How to keep your child entertained over the bank holiday

Here are some ideas for things to do with your children over the bank holiday weekend.


• Art is a great way to stimulate a child’s imagination and encourage creativity.  It’s a simple, cost effective and fun activity to fill the school holidays.

• Drawing is an ideal way for parents to bond with their child. 

• Busy mums and dads can get involved by suggesting activities, such as the Beefeater Children’s Drawing Competition www.beefeater.co.uk, and then admiring and discussing their child’s work when they’ve finished.

• Stock up on recycled paper colouring pencils, crayons, paint and felt tip pens at home.  You never know when it’s going to be a rainy day.

• Crayons are less messy for younger children.

• On sunny days, keep your child entertained at the park or beach by bringing along colouring books, note pads and small box of colouring pens and pencils.

• Long train or plane journeys will fly by if you bring art materials for the journey.

• Suggest topics for your children to draw to get their creative juices flowing.  E.g. animals, seasons, family, what you did at school today, holidays.

• Make reading more fun and interactive by encouraging children to create illustrations for their favourite books.

• Encourage them to enter competitions.  A prize incentive will really spur them on and get them thinking.
